Mhara River

Mhara River Bush Camp is situated under shady rain trees (Philenoptera Violacae) on high ground with stunning views of the Chitake river 50 meters below. The backdrop is the wild and untouched Zambezi escarpment. The accommodation consists of 6 luxury tents each with en suite facilities and is spaced on each side of the uniquely designed central reception, and dining area which is built on a raised wooden deck complete with an upstairs platform for dining under the stars.

Activities

Activities offered at Mhara include game drives and amazing walks through ancient baobabs (Adansonia Digitata) forests, along the watercourses of the Chitake and Mhara river gorges accompanied by our experienced qualified guides. We have many natural water points, some with specially constructed “ hides “ for you to get that picture of a lifetime as the area abounds in all big game species. Due to the diverse vegetation in the concession the birding is excellent with many rare species present such as the elusive African Pitta. Picnic under shady riverine trees, starlight dinners or just relax and enjoy the sights and sounds of a truly pristine and untouched wilderness area.

TESTIMONIALS

"Our groups inaugural stay at Mhara River Bush Camp was nothing short of sensational.
Not only are you greeted with the most awe-inspiring view from the dining deck,
but especially for birders, waking up to the display calls of the highly sought-after
African Pitta, calling from the thick riverine forest immediately adjacent to the camp
is hard to beat. This camp is set in productive mixed woodlands, and is home to many of
the regions more special birds, including Lillian’s Lovebird, African Broadbill, Livingstone’s
Flycatcher and Red-throated Twinspot. Aside from the excellent birds and birding, the camp is
also in a prime game-viewing area, and the resident pride of Lions were almost a daily addition.
I can hardly think of a better place to combine quality birding, with a relaxing bush experience!"
